Sexton Restoration

Restoration Wrapping up!

This vehicle was in very rough shape when we got it last fall for restoration. We completely stripped it down, pulled everything out and then began the work. Many of the controls, linkages, and numerous other parts had to be fabricated from scratch. We fabricated an entire breech for the gun from scratch and it came out fantastic. The main gun has a Bismark firing control board but we built a custom box that holds all of the bottles as well as the board and firing controls. There is over 100ft of tubing in this small 1x3 box which resides next to the driver. From this custom control board you can control the gas for the machine gun and the main gun - it will be hidden under a piece of custom canvas from Beachwood.
The amount of fabrication on this vehicle prevents me from listing everything we did, huge amounts of machine work but it is truly fantastic looking now! One of our best customers owns this vehicle, he will be taking it back to Maine after our show in August - but we don't want to send it back!

Sexton History
The 25pdr SP, tracked, Sexton was a self-propelled artillery vehicle of World War II, based on an American Sherman tank hull design, built by Canada for the British Army, and associated Commonwealth forces, and some of the other Allies. It was very similar to the American M7 Priest. This vehicle uses an R-975 C1 Radial engine - same as the M18 Hellcat and some versions of the Sherman Tank.

Unfortunately the album does not have the pictures in order - so you have to peck around to see different stages
